Cattlemen in the Pacific Northwest have trusted Kessler Angus for years as a source of calving ease bulls that are safe for use on heifers. In our bull sale catalog we mark the bulls for calving ease using a star rating system. The lots marked as heifer safe bulls in the bull sale book are up to three generations proven as such and we have put concentration on building an elite calving ease part of our cowherd.
While some bulls in the book may qualify as calving ease EPDs in many operations we have always been strict on requirements to be considered truly calving ease and it shows in the satisfaction of our bull sale customers that return year after year to purchase heifer bulls. The breed makeup of your cowherd has an effect on how their calves will perform and therefore we have a breakdown of that included in our star ratings as well.
- 5 Star calving ease: Recommended safe for use on ALL heifers
- 4 Star calving ease: Recommended for use on Angus, Hereford, Charolais or Simmental Heifers
- 3 star calving ease: Recommended for use on cows or large-frame Angus or Hereford based heifers
- 2 star calving ease: Recommended for use on cows only
- 1 star calving ease: Recommended for use on cows only.
